Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is backing an artificial intelligence project designed to improve energy efficiency through smart meter data.

Minister Dr Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem discussed the initiative during a meeting with the team participating in the 2026 Korea AI in Action Program. The project uses AI to analyze electricity consumption patterns and develop practical tools for conservation and more efficient energy use, according to the ministry.

The initiative is linked to the ministry’s digital transformation plans and draws on Kuwait’s national “Wafer” campaign, which promotes electricity and water conservation. The team has translated the campaign’s goals into an AI-based solution intended to support conservation efforts and increase the value of smart meter systems.

Al-Mukhaizeem highlighted the importance of initiatives that apply modern technology to challenges in the electricity and energy sector. The meeting was also attended by Undersecretary Dr Adel Al-Zamil and members of the program team.
