Lenovo has started industrial production in Saudi Arabia and plans to turn its Riyadh factory into a major export base for global markets, according to the company.
The move follows the unveiling of the first laptop manufactured in Saudi Arabia. Lenovo said the facility will produce up to 2 million units a year, with most output allocated for export and the remainder supplied to the local market based on demand and global supply requirements.
Speaking to Asharq Bloomberg on the sidelines of LEAP 2026, Tarek Al-Anqari, Lenovo’s president for the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa, said full operations across four production lines will begin in December. The lines will make laptops, desktops, Motorola devices and high-performance data servers. All four categories are expected to be available in Saudi Arabia by February.
Lenovo has also established its regional headquarters and a research and development centre in Riyadh, serving operations across more than 72 countries. The company is training more than 100 Saudi engineers and technicians at its factories in China for six months before integrating them into local production teams.
The Riyadh facility is part of a $2B investment by PIF-owned Alat in Lenovo through convertible bonds. The direct investment in the factory has not been disclosed.
