A Platform for Policy and Practice
The conference was opened by Dr. Aicha Bent El Hacen, a representative from Mauritania’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. In her address, she stressed the critical importance of women’s entrepreneurship as a fundamental driver for economic and social development, particularly given the current challenges in the Sahel and Maghreb.
Representing the University of Nouakchott, Vice President Prof. Mohamed Lemine Moulaye Brahim positioned the conference as part of a concerted academic effort to support applied research in the field. He highlighted that the event is more than an academic discussion, describing it as “a platform for exchanging expertise between researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers.”

The event has a notable international dimension, drawing experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs from Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Canada, France, Cameroon, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Benin. According to Professor Brahim, this diverse participation contributes to generating scientific knowledge directly connected to real-world conditions and celebrating successful women’s initiatives in the region.
The conference agenda, scheduled from April 20th to 23rd, 2026, includes scientific activities, hands-on workshops, and presentations of successful case studies. The core objective is to build capacity for women, expand their integration into the economy, and promote innovation to advance sustainable development across the African continent.
