The Sultanate of Oman has officially launched its first AI-powered autonomous asphalt paving system, a significant move in the country’s push to integrate smart technology into its national infrastructure projects. The new technology was deployed in the Wilayat of Maqshan, Dhofar Governorate, as part of the fourth phase of the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road Dualization Project, under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Smart Paving for Smarter Roads

The initiative was inaugurated at a ceremony under the patronage of Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Said highlighted the initiative as a key advancement for Oman’s roads sector and the wider automation of civil engineering projects in the country. He noted that the adoption of intelligent infrastructure systems is a direct reflection of Oman’s commitment to using advanced technologies in public development.
This strategy supports the nation’s long-term economic diversification and modernization goals. According to officials, the shift towards automated infrastructure engineering is projected to lower long-term operational and maintenance costs while setting new regional standards for efficiency and quality in transport infrastructure.
