Hydrovest Technology, an AgTech startup based at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), is developing integrated farming models that combine hydroponics with traditional agriculture to address the country’s limited water and fertile land.
Founder and CEO Jeacim Francis Adaya said soilless cultivation is intended to complement, rather than replace, open-field farming. The approach can support food production in areas where conventional agriculture is difficult and help commercial growers maintain more consistent, year-round output.
According to Adaya, closed-loop hydroponic systems recycle water within the growing process, reducing consumption compared with conventional irrigation. Hydrovest has also used its position at QSTP to develop equipment designed for Qatar’s high-heat, desert environment.
The company is also focused on decentralised farming models, including smaller installations in urban areas, residential communities, schools and community centres. Adaya said these setups could strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce exposure to import and logistics disruptions.
He added that public education and community participation will be important for wider adoption. Hydrovest’s longer-term focus is on desert-specific agricultural technologies, research partnerships and a commercial ecosystem that can support AgTech businesses across the Gulf.
