Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education is introducing a new curriculum for the 2026-2027 academic year, with artificial intelligence and data science added across primary, preparatory and secondary education.
The curriculum also includes entrepreneurship, economics, commerce, practical vocational skills and self-learning programmes covering areas such as money management, personal development, home economics, first aid and social responsibility.
According to local media reports, parents have broadly welcomed the changes, particularly the flexible, self-paced learning content and earlier exposure to skills linked to future university and career choices.
The ministry has stressed that AI should support learning rather than replace independent thinking. Students will also be taught about the technology’s risks, along with the importance of questioning and verifying AI-generated content.
Adding data science is intended to strengthen students’ analytical and critical-thinking skills, helping them interpret information and make evidence-based decisions. Parents said successful implementation will depend on qualified teachers, guidance from schools and families, and practical projects that allow students to apply what they learn.
The curriculum forms part of Qatar’s broader effort to align education with digital transformation and changing labour-market needs.
