Qiddiya Investment Company, the developer behind one of the world’s most ambitious entertainment destinations, is partnering with Google Cloud to build the digital and AI backbone for Qiddiya City. The 360km² giga-project outside Riyadh aims to host over 40 million visitors a year, and this collaboration will embed data and AI capabilities into the city’s core from its inception.
Quick Facts
- Project: 360km² entertainment city outside Riyadh.
- Partners: Google Cloud, systems integrator Master Works.
- Technology: Gemini AI, Q-Brain platform, Google BigQuery.
Building a Smart City From Day One
Qiddiya City is not just a collection of theme parks; it is planned as a fully operational city with 20 neighborhoods, professional sports venues, and gaming districts. By integrating Google Cloud’s technology stack from the ground up, operators will gain immediate access to real-time intelligence on everything from crowd movements and visitor spending to construction progress and city operations.
The scale of the project is massive, covering an area roughly three times the size of Paris. Once complete, it is expected to be home to half a million residents while attracting more than 40 million annual visitors. This initiative marks one of the first times a mega-city project has been designed with agentic AI processes integrated from the outset, setting a new benchmark for urban developers globally.
The Three Pillars of Qiddiya’s AI Strategy
Riyadh-based systems integrator Master Works is tasked with deploying Google Cloud’s technologies across the project, focusing on three core initiatives that will form the city’s digital nervous system.
First is an AI Factory built on Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. This system will analyze visitor behavior, spending habits, and movement data to enable predictive crowd management and deliver personalized experiences across the entire destination.
Second, Qiddiya’s proprietary AI platform, known as Q-Brain, will be upgraded with Gemini models. This will transform it into an active operational partner, providing leadership with live intelligence and enabling autonomous task execution for staff across the city.
Finally, a unified data platform using Google’s BigQuery will consolidate information from every venue and district into a single source of truth. This provides the immense processing power required to run a smart city at such a large scale, reducing the time needed to gain insights from weeks to minutes. The infrastructure is being rolled out across live assets, including the recently opened Six Flags and Aquarabia water park.
A Cornerstone of Saudi Vision 2030
Qiddiya is a central component of Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom’s economic diversification plan aimed at developing its entertainment, sports, and culture sectors. As a Public Investment Fund (PIF) vehicle, Qiddiya Investment Company was established to create a world-class entertainment destination to capture domestic and international tourism spending.
With 67% of Saudi Arabia’s population under 35, the project is designed to provide entertainment options at home, create thousands of jobs, and build a new pillar for the non-oil economy. Qiddiya City’s combination of sports arenas, concert venues, theme parks, and cultural academies is set to position Saudi Arabia as a leading global tourist destination.
