The Syrian Federation of Industry Chambers and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are exploring ways to increase exports, create international marketing channels and expand financing for damaged industrial facilities.
During a meeting in Syria, UNDP representatives outlined projects focused on sustainable development, energy, the environment, climate and governance. The programme is also working on electricity projects in Syrian industrial cities, according to a statement from the federation.
UNDP Syria head Hassan Falaha said the organisation is preparing entrepreneurship financing projects and loans aimed at helping restart damaged facilities. It is also preparing to launch a specialised export academy to strengthen producers’ capabilities and improve access to international markets, according to Syria’s official news agency SANA.
Federation president Mazen Dirwan proposed appointing a liaison between the federation and UNDP, in cooperation with Syrian industry chambers, to improve access to financing programmes. He also expressed readiness to support the export academy.
The meeting also reviewed a recent private-sector conference organised by UNDP and preparations for another conference with Syrian private-sector stakeholders. The first national private-sector dialogue conference of 2026 was launched on June 1 by Syria’s Ministry of Economy and Industry, in cooperation with UNDP and with support from the Japanese government.
