Syria’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority held a forum in Damascus to explore ways to build a more sustainable business environment for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Organised under the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Syrian Forum for SME Development brought together local and international organisations, associations, institutions and volunteer teams at the Dama Rose Hotel. Discussions focused on coordinating support for entrepreneurship, expanding community development opportunities and preparing projects for the coming year.
Participants highlighted the need to better understand SME conditions and market demand, identify priority sectors, and direct funding and resources toward projects that support production and job creation. They also called for greater use of innovation, modern technology and artificial intelligence to improve business competitiveness.
The forum addressed challenges facing business owners and the importance of linking beneficiary and project data to the authority’s platform. According to the announcement, this would help improve the targeting of support, training and financing programmes.
Authority Director Ehab Zakour said the organisation is working to become more closely connected to business owners across Syria’s governorates and sectors, and to link them with relevant services, opportunities and support providers. UNDP representative Hassan Fallaha also stressed the importance of stronger coordination to support the sustainability and development of small and micro businesses.
