Syria has launched a $1 million project to update and digitize company registration and property records, aiming to reduce paperwork, speed up transactions and improve access to official data.

The Ministry of Industry, Internal Trade and Consumer Protection is implementing the six-month project in partnership with Creative Associates International, with support from the US Department of State, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The initiative is expected to serve around 500,000 investors and companies and train more than 1,000 employees and trainees. Its main components include upgrading digital infrastructure, establishing a data center, electronically archiving more than 5 million historical documents and creating an online platform for remote company and agency registration.

The platform will be integrated with Syria’s one-stop shop system and investment authority. The project also includes connecting 14 ministry directorates across the country in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

A parallel track will focus on digitizing property records. The announcement said five digital data transformation centers will provide the infrastructure needed to digitize about 500,000 land registry records.

Officials said the project is also intended to strengthen transparency, cybersecurity and government capacity to manage the new systems after the technical support period ends.
