Mastercard has partnered with mobile games publisher Tamatem to process in-game payments on Tamatem Plus, the company’s digital commerce platform and marketplace.

The rollout will cover more than 13 markets across the Middle East and Africa, beginning with Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Tamatem Plus lets players pay through local web stores and in-game checkouts using cards, local payment methods and telco wallet balances. The company said transactions will also include authentication and fraud protection.

Tamatem Plus offers more than 50 local payment methods through a single integration and operates over 30 local storefronts. Mastercard Gateway, provided through Mastercard Merchant Cloud, will support transactions across stores, websites and mobile apps.

According to the announcement, the partnership will give game publishers a direct sales channel and greater control over their customer purchasing experience. As a direct Mastercard Gateway partner, Tamatem Plus will also receive 24/7 technical support and access to multiple local and international acquirer connections.

Tamatem has backing from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and support from Abu Dhabi Gaming.
