The UAE and the US are expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum computing and space as the Gulf state advances a $1.4 trillion investment commitment in the US.
The development follows three days of meetings in Washington between a senior UAE delegation and officials from the US State Department, Commerce Department and White House. Discussions covered advanced technology, export policy and secure access to US technology for approved UAE entities.
The talks build on the UAE’s A:5 export-control designation, which the country said makes it the first Arab state to receive. The designation is intended to streamline technology trade between the two countries.
The UAE delegation was led by Omran Sharaf, assistant foreign minister for advanced science and technology affairs, and included Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, the UAE government’s head of cybersecurity, along with representatives from the Advanced Technology Research Council, UAE Space Agency and Space42.
The meetings come under a 10-year investment framework announced in March 2025. The framework covers sectors including AI infrastructure, semiconductors, energy and manufacturing.
Sharaf also met leaders from quantum computing company IonQ, the Information Technology Industry Council and the Software and Information Industry Association, as well as representatives from US policy institutions.
