Wio Bank customers in the UAE can now pay online without manually entering their card details, after the bank enabled Mastercard Click to Pay on its cards.
According to the announcement, Wio is the first card issuer in the country to enable the service automatically, meaning customers do not need to register themselves.
Mastercard Click to Pay works across devices, browsers and a growing number of merchants. It uses tokenisation to replace card numbers with unique codes, keeping the underlying payment details hidden during checkout.
Customers can also use Mastercard Payment Passkey to approve purchases with a fingerprint or face scan on their device, removing the need for passwords or one-time codes. Mastercard said sensitive payment data is not shared with third parties.
“The auto-enablement of Click to Pay will allow our customers to complete their e-commerce purchases with a single click and with added peace of mind,” said Prateek Vahie, chief commercial officer at Wio Bank.
Mastercard and its partners aim to make online shopping fully tokenised and verified by 2030.
