The project aims to move beyond traditional archiving methods, creating an intelligent system to protect the nation’s collective memory for future generations.
Quick Facts
- Project will digitize the UAE’s national memory.
- Utilizes AI, robotics, and smart archiving technologies.
- Aligns with UAE Digital Transformation Strategy 2031.
Building an Intelligent Knowledge Ecosystem
This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader push to accelerate its digital transformation and establish itself as a global hub for innovation. Officials stated the projects will shift traditional archiving into an intelligent digital ecosystem capable of analyzing, indexing, and retrieving historical information with improved speed and accuracy.
The projects align directly with the goals of the UAE Digital Transformation Strategy 2031, focusing on improving operational efficiency and government readiness through the adoption of new technologies.
Speaking on the launch, Dr Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Director General of the National Library and Archives, said the projects reflect the institution’s commitment to adopting future technologies and supporting the UAE’s sustainable development goals.
“This will help create an intelligent knowledge ecosystem capable of supporting decision-making, improving document management and enhancing services for beneficiaries,” he explained.
Developing National AI Talent
A core component of the initiative is building local expertise in artificial intelligence and data science. Dr Al Ali confirmed that employees are undergoing training to lead these digital transformation projects and foster an innovative culture within the workplace.
Future project plans include advanced AI systems designed to support strategic planning and data analysis. These efforts are also intended to strengthen the institution’s ability to monitor technological developments and improve its long-term operational sustainability.
Inside the Smart Archiving Tech Stack
The initiative will develop and implement a suite of intelligent digital archiving solutions. These include technologies like automated indexing, optical character recognition (OCR) for digitizing text from physical documents, and multimedia content analysis.
These systems are designed to preserve national documents while improving public and researcher access to historical information through modern digital platforms with advanced search capabilities. The ultimate goal is to protect the UAE’s national memory by documenting the country’s history with technology that supports scientific research and digital innovation.
