Oman Launches $75M National Green Mobility Company

3 Min Read

The National Green Mobility Company (NGMC), a public-private platform designed to accelerate Oman’s transition to electric transport, was officially launched with an initial investment of RO 29 million ($75 million). The company will establish an innovative ecosystem for electric vehicles, including cars, charging infrastructure, digital platforms, and technical services.

By the Numbers

The NGMC has laid out an ambitious roadmap to build a comprehensive EV ecosystem:

  • $75 Million (RO 29M): The initial investment in the new platform.
  • 500 EVs: The number of electric vehicles to be distributed in Muscat and other governorates in 2026.
  • 10,000+ EVs: The target number of electric vehicles the project aims to operate by 2032.
  • 200 Fast-Charging Stations: The number of stations to be established across the Sultanate by 2032.
  • 500+ Jobs: The number of jobs for Omanis to be created in the initial phase of the project.

A National Platform for a Sustainable Future

The launch of the NGMC reflects Oman’s commitment to building a modern and environmentally friendly transport system. Eng. Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, stated that the initiative is “a national platform that supports industrial innovation and opens broad horizons for creating job opportunities, thereby strengthening Oman’s position as a regional hub for clean technologies”. The project is a partnership between HK Ventures (Oman) and the China–Middle East Development Group.

A Long-Term Vision for Industrial Localisation

The company’s roadmap extends to 2035, with plans to progress towards industrial localisation. This includes positioning Oman as a regional destination for the manufacturing and assembly of electric vehicle components and the localization of charging equipment. The company will also open the door to local manufacturing of light mobility solutions such as e-bikes.

A Commitment to Environmental Impact and Job Creation

The project is expected to have a significant positive impact on the environment, reducing approximately 4.6 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per vehicle, which translates to nearly 46,000 metric tonnes annually by 2032. This reduction is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting two million trees. In addition to its environmental benefits, the NGMC will create at least 500 jobs for Omanis in its initial phase and will launch specialized training programs to prepare national talent for careers in the electric mobility sector.
