In a move to bolster the legal and regulatory knowledge of the local business community, Dubai Chambers recently organized two specialized legal workshops. The initiatives were designed to raise awareness among founders and corporate leaders about critical legislative aspects and compliance requirements essential for navigating Dubai’s dynamic economic landscape.
Navigating Multi-Jurisdictional Corporate Structures
The first workshop, held in collaboration with PwC Legal Middle East, tackled the complexities of structuring operations effectively across multiple jurisdictions. The session provided attendees with practical insights and strategic frameworks, using real-world case studies to illustrate how to design compliant and efficient corporate structures. Key topics included a deep dive into the UAE’s legal and regulatory environment, the crucial distinction between the ‘sale of goods’ and ‘provision of services’, and the legal considerations for contracting between free zone and mainland companies. The workshop also explored corporate structuring from legal, corporate tax, VAT, and customs perspectives, offering a holistic view of potential opportunities and pitfalls.
Demystifying Commercial Contracts
In partnership with TSGG and KLME Law, the second workshop, titled ‘Simplifying Contract Understanding,’ addressed the growing need for clear and enforceable agreements in Dubai’s expanding commercial hub. The session was structured to break down complex legal contracts into clear, understandable sections. Through practical examples, participants gained confidence in interpreting key legal agreements. The session covered crucial elements such as the significance of the preamble, defining the scope of work, key contractual obligations, term and termination clauses, the impact of jurisdiction choice, and various dispute resolution mechanisms.
