Green Stone, an innovative team from the Faculty of Science at Beni Suef University, has secured the “International Plan” award at the Rally Egypt for Entrepreneurship 2025 competition. The team was awarded a prize of EGP 75,000 for its groundbreaking project in sustainable materials.

The competition was organized by the National Center for Entrepreneurship at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), with the backing of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and the Ministry of Higher Education’s Innovators and Geniuses Care Fund. The event saw participation from over 50 teams representing public, private, and national universities across Egypt.

An Innovative Approach to Green Construction

Green Stone’s winning project introduces a novel method for the sustainable production of bio-cement. The process leverages a circular economy model by utilizing waste from mollusks, diatoms, and fungal systems.
This eco-friendly solution directly addresses environmental concerns associated with traditional cement production and aligns with Egypt’s national strategy for sustainable development and the promotion of a green economy.

Fostering University-Led Innovation

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, commended the team’s achievement, highlighting its significance in raising awareness about sustainability and environmental issues.

“This achievement reflects the awareness of the Faculty of Science students on issues of sustainability and the environment, and their ability to provide innovative solutions that are in line with the Egyptian state’s directions in confronting climate change and supporting the green economy,” Dr. Ali stated. He further emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation among its students.

Dr. Wael Nabil Hazin, Dean of the Faculty of Science, also praised the team for their distinguished accomplishment, noting the competitive landscape of the competition.
