Egyptian logistics startup Bosta has announced ambitious plans to deliver approximately 80 million shipments annually by 2026, following the launch of its new automated sorting center. The facility, the largest of its kind in the Middle East, was established with a $5 million investment and marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy.
The announcement was made during the center’s inauguration, attended by Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, who highlighted the project’s role in the state’s efforts to empower the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
A New Era of Automated Logistics
The newly opened facility is powered by the region’s largest automated sorting machine, capable of processing up to 11,000 shipments per hour and 250,000 shipments daily. This technological leap significantly enhances Bosta’s operational capacity, positioning it to meet the surging demands of the e-commerce market.
The launch event was attended by prominent figures including Mohamed Ezzat, Founder and CEO of Bosta; Ken Allen, former CEO of DHL; and Hossam Heiba, former head of Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), alongside other entrepreneurs and startup community representatives.
Government Backing for a Booming Sector
In her address, Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized that Egypt’s logistics sector is experiencing a significant boom, with the expansions undertaken by startups like Bosta reflecting the rapid growth of e-commerce.
“The government is keen on providing all incentives and facilities for the growth of startups,” Dr. Al-Mashat stated, noting that a new package of incentives for the sector would be announced soon. She added that the success of Egyptian entrepreneurs in harnessing technology and innovation is key to developing services and capitalizing on the country’s large market size.
A Showcase of Ecosystem Collaboration
The minister also pointed to the project as a prime example of synergy within Egypt’s startup ecosystem. The advanced sorting machine at the heart of the new center was manufactured by Simplex, another Egyptian startup specializing in machinery production.
This collaboration between Bosta and Simplex underscores the strength, competitiveness, and integrated capabilities of the local tech community. Dr. Al-Mashat remarked that innovation and the use of modern technology are crucial factors in increasing growth rates, employment, and productivity for any economy aiming to advance.
