Egypt’s startup ecosystem has a new central hub with the official launch of the revamped Egypt Innovate platform. The initiative is a major public-private collaboration between Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and a consortium led by the venture builder Entlaq, including software development firm Kamelizer and tech agency Robusta. The launch was announced during the AI Everything Middle East & Africa exhibition.
A Public-Private Partnership for the Ecosystem
The redevelopment of Egypt Innovate aims to create a comprehensive platform that accurately reflects the dynamism of the country’s entrepreneurial landscape. The project was built with the philosophy of being a platform for the ecosystem, by the ecosystem.
Ahmed El Zaher, CEO of ITIDA, stated that the goal was for the platform to be an expression of the startup ecosystem from within. “We worked over the past period with a one-team spirit with our partners to develop the platform, and the final product has exceeded expectations,” he said. “The goal is for the platform to convey all the innovations and developments within Egypt’s entrepreneurship community and to reflect a true and integrated picture of the local ecosystem.”
Heitham Hamza, representing ITIDA, added that while Egypt Innovate existed previously, its official relaunch after redevelopment is a significant step. He noted it operates under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology but acts as a participatory entity directly linked to the startup community.
A Living Hub Built by the Community
Unlike a static database, Egypt Innovate is designed to be a dynamic engine for the ecosystem, relying on data contributed by the community itself. This includes success stories, venture data, and insights from various stakeholders.
“The platform is not just a database but an actual driver for the ecosystem,” Hamza explained. He urged companies and entrepreneurs to register and share their data, highlighting upcoming features like an Innovation Map and other support services designed to empower users.
Mohamed Ehab, CEO of Entlaq, emphasized the market need for such a resource. “The ecosystem in Egypt needed a unified platform to gather its data and facilitate understanding of the Egyptian market for those interested, both internally and externally,” he said. The development process, which took nearly two years, focused on building a technologically advanced platform with a robust infrastructure.
Connecting Stakeholders and Attracting Investment
A core objective of Egypt Innovate is to serve as the primary gateway for anyone looking to engage with Egypt’s startup scene. The platform aims to act as a crucial link between companies, government bodies, investors, and universities.
“The main message of the platform is to be the main portal for any entity wishing to learn about the startup market in Egypt,” Ehab stated. He highlighted its potential to facilitate the entry of foreign investors by providing a single, reliable source of information.
Hanan Abdel Meguid, Founder and CEO of Kamelizer, described the launch as the realization of a long-held dream. “All parties were convinced of the ecosystem’s need for a platform that brings together key players and provides the necessary technical tools and analytics,” she noted, emphasizing that the platform’s value will be realized through user interaction and participation.
An MVP with an AI-Powered Future
The current version of Egypt Innovate represents a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), with a focus on core features that enable collaboration among all ecosystem players. The platform’s future development will be heavily guided by user feedback.
Hussein Mohieldin, CEO of Robusta, confirmed this approach. “The development of future features will depend largely on user opinions and feedback, ensuring that the data remains community-driven rather than fully centralized,” he said.
Mohieldin also revealed an ambitious roadmap that includes integrating smart tools and AI agents to support the platform’s evolution. A smart chatbot is already prepared for deployment, underscoring a commitment to continuous updates and innovation in the coming phases.
