Egyptian Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence specialist OTONOM has announced plans for local and regional expansion, built on a model of complete in-house research, development, and local manufacturing. The company aims to bolster the competitiveness of Egyptian technology within the global smart device sector.
In a statement to Fintech Gate, Co-founder Mahmoud Mohamed described OTONOM as a comprehensive “IoT Lab,” offering a full development cycle that begins with R&D, moves through software and electronic component design, and culminates in prototyping to transform concepts into commercially viable products.
Specialized AI-Powered Solutions
The company has already executed several specialized projects, including the development of a smart bracelet for a UAE-based investor designed for scuba diving training. The device measures vital signs like heart rate and blood oxygen levels in real-time, integrating the data with AI models to analyze potential health risks before they occur. For enhanced safety, the device also includes a GPS system and an emergency button.
In the smart home sector, OTONOM provides solutions that convert traditional homes into smart ones without requiring modifications to the existing electrical infrastructure. These systems can be operated online or via a local area network (LAN) if internet service is interrupted. The solutions leverage AI to analyze user behavior patterns and suggest automated scenarios, such as customized lighting or music schedules that align with daily habits.
The Local Manufacturing Advantage
OTONOM’s key competitive advantage lies in its commitment to complete local manufacturing within Egypt. This strategy allows the company to offer products at highly competitive prices compared to imported devices, a significant benefit amidst global supply chain fluctuations and rising import costs.
Security is a top priority for the company. Devices are physically secured with biometric verification technologies, while digital protection is ensured by hosting data on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers. OTONOM also conducts regular penetration testing to maintain system integrity and address any potential vulnerabilities.
Expansion and Funding Plans
Founded in 2020, OTONOM is targeting significant growth in the B2B sector this year, with plans to execute approximately 20 large-scale projects. In parallel, the company is exploring a six-figure funding round to fuel its expansion. The new capital will be allocated towards developing production lines, enhancing R&D in AI applications, and scaling up marketing activities.
OTONOM is positioning itself to capitalize on the growing demand for IoT solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, which are key drivers of digital transformation in emerging markets. The company seeks to establish its position as a competitive Egyptian technology player on a regional scale.
