Media City Qatar has announced a significant operational milestone, surpassing 500 licensed companies within its ecosystem. The achievement signals strong and sustained growth for Doha’s media and creative industries, positioning the city as an increasingly attractive base for both international giants and emerging startups.
Quick Facts
- Over 500 licensed companies now operational.
- Represents a 60% increase since early 2026.
- Nearly 70% of companies originate from outside the Middle East.
A Magnet for Global Media and Startups
The growth trajectory shows a fivefold increase since 2024, attracting a diverse mix of companies across gaming, broadcasting, digital tech, and support services. Major global players like CNN, Dow Jones, Euronews, AP, iHeartMedia, and Amazon Advertising have established operations alongside a vibrant startup scene, which accounts for approximately 60% of the licensed companies. This influx highlights Qatar’s growing appeal as an international hub for the media industry.
Fueling Job Creation and Economic Diversification
The expansion has directly contributed to the creation of around 1,250 jobs, reinforcing the creative sector’s role in Qatar’s economic development goals under the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Hamad Omar A. Al-Mannai, CEO of Media City Qatar, commented on the milestone, “Surpassing 500 licensed companies reflects the strong momentum behind Media City Qatar and the growing confidence in Doha as a hub for media and innovation. Our focus now is on building on this growth and enabling companies to scale and create from here.”
To highlight the success stories within its community, Media City Qatar is also expanding its ‘InsideNext’ series with a new video mini-documentary format. The series will offer a ground-level view of how businesses are building and expanding from their base in Qatar.
The Draw of a Business-Friendly Framework
A key driver of this growth is the streamlined and supportive environment Media City Qatar provides. Companies benefit from fast licensing processes, 100% foreign ownership, zero income tax, and an absence of customs duties. The provision of grants and a clear legal framework allows businesses to focus on operations and scaling, rather than navigating complex bureaucracy.
