Space42 Launches Three New Satellites, Expanding Its Global AI-Powered Earth Observation Network

4 Min Read

UAE-based AI and geospatial intelligence company, Space42, has successfully deployed three new satellites, significantly expanding its Earth observation capabilities and reinforcing the UAE’s role in the global space technology sector. The move grows the company’s constellation to five satellites, enhancing its ability to deliver near-real-time data to clients worldwide.

Quick Facts

  • Three new satellites now fully operational.
  • Foresight Earth Observation constellation now totals five.
  • Network covers over 90% of the world’s population.

Bolstering Sovereign Capabilities in Abu Dhabi

The newly operational satellites, named Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5, are part of the company’s Foresight Earth Observation (EO) constellation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites. The project was developed in partnership with Finland-based ICEYE, which included a technology transfer initiative to localize key parts of the space industry supply chain.

Integration and testing for the new satellites were completed at Space42’s Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) facility in Abu Dhabi. This highlights a growing domestic manufacturing and engineering capacity within the UAE, a key objective of the nation’s strategic goals.

“With Foresight-3, -4, and -5 now live, we are expanding sovereign Earth observation with greater speed and consistency to governments, industries, and partners worldwide,” said Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42.

“The collaboration with ICEYE and the successful operations carried out at the Space42 Space Systems facility have strengthened national capabilities to a level that can compete and scale globally,” he added.

AI-Powered Insights from Low Earth Orbit

Operating in mid-inclined Low Earth Orbit, the new satellites provide frequent and consistent monitoring across regions home to more than 90% of the global population. The constellation delivers all-weather imaging with resolutions up to 25 centimeters, capable of detecting minor changes on the Earth’s surface.

Data from the satellites is fed into GIQ, Space42’s proprietary AI-powered geospatial intelligence platform. GIQ processes raw SAR imagery into actionable information within minutes, supporting critical operations for governments and businesses in areas like infrastructure monitoring, disaster response, environmental management, and security.

According to the company, its AI-driven analytics can help reduce emergency response times by up to 90%, lower predictive maintenance costs by up to 30%, and decrease operational inefficiencies by up to 25%.

Tapping a Growing Global Market

The expansion aligns with rising global demand for Earth observation services, as industries and governments increasingly depend on geospatial intelligence for risk management and operational efficiency. Industry forecasts suggest that Earth observation insights could generate over $700 billion in economic value by 2030.

This development also supports the UAE’s National Space Strategy 2030, which aims to build sovereign space capabilities through investment in advanced infrastructure, AI, and local manufacturing.
