UEDA and Rotary Cairo Entrepreneurs Partner to Launch Green Upper Egypt Initiative

The Upper Egypt Development Authority (UEDA) has signed a cooperation protocol with Rotary Cairo Entrepreneurs to support sustainable development and economic empowerment across Upper Egypt’s governorates. The partnership is designed to foster a new generation of entrepreneurs focused on the green economy.

Fostering a Green Economy in Upper Egypt

The agreement aims to prepare and qualify young people in Upper Egypt for careers in green entrepreneurship and the sustainable economy. This will be achieved through integrated training programs, business incubators, and technical and marketing support. A key component of the collaboration involves connecting new projects with financing bodies to help transform innovative ideas into viable, competitive businesses.

The signing was attended by Major General Amr Abdel Moneim, Head of UEDA; Dr. Hossam Farahat, Governor of Rotary District 2451; and Dr. Dina El-Manzalawy, President of Rotary Cairo Entrepreneurs, alongside other officials from both organizations.

Major General Amr Abdel Moneim stated that the protocol reflects the authority’s strategy to broaden partnerships with civil society institutions, create real opportunities for youth, and promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Inside the “Green Upper Egypt” Initiative

The collaboration will be executed through the “Green Upper Egypt” initiative, which targets university students, recent graduates, and new entrepreneurs in the region. The program will concentrate on several key sectors, including:

  • Environmental products
  • Smart agriculture and food processing
  • Recycling and renewable energy
  • Sustainable heritage crafts
  • Eco-friendly packaging

Dr. Hossam Farahat expressed his appreciation for the cooperation, highlighting that it represents a shared vision to support youth and enable their participation in the green economy for a sustainable developmental impact.

Dr. Dina El-Manzalawy added that Rotary Cairo Entrepreneurs is keen on supporting entrepreneurs and youth through effective partnerships that advance innovation and sustainable projects.

From Heritage Crafts to Market Access

On the sidelines of the signing, UEDA organized a small exhibition showcasing handmade products from its craft complexes and skills development centers. The event featured a variety of traditional crafts reflecting the cultural heritage of Upper Egypt and the authority’s efforts to turn these skills into sustainable economic projects.

UEDA also announced the upcoming launch of the “Sa’id Misr Bazaar” in Cairo’s Zamalek district. This bazaar is intended to become a permanent platform for marketing handicraft products and small-scale industries from the region, opening up new markets for producers.

The “Green Upper Egypt” initiative is a joint program by the Upper Egypt Development Authority and Rotary Cairo Entrepreneurs. Its primary goal is to empower university students, graduates, and early-stage entrepreneurs in Upper Egypt by providing them with training, incubation, funding access, and support to build sustainable businesses in the green economy sector.
