In a move to strengthen economic ties, the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) and the Industrial Businesswomen Committee of the Damascus Chamber of Industry have initiated talks to build new avenues of cooperation. The virtual meeting, led by DBWC President Dr. Raja Al Gurg and Committee Head Wafaa Abu Labda, focused on developing joint initiatives to support and empower female entrepreneurs in Syria.

Rebuilding Syria’s Industrial Fabric
During the discussion, Wafaa Abu Labda outlined the critical role her committee plays in championing Syrian women in business, particularly in the country’s recovery phase. She highlighted the significant damage industrial facilities have sustained while pointing to the resilience of female entrepreneurs who have successfully restarted their operations despite the challenges.
Abu Labda detailed her committee’s efforts, which include organizing workshops, facilitating participation in local and international exhibitions, and nurturing small and micro-enterprises. The committee also actively supports traditional craft industries inspired by Syrian heritage, aiming to boost women’s economic participation and their role in national development.
Building a UAE-Syria Economic Bridge
Dr. Raja Al Gurg expressed the Dubai Business Women Council’s strong interest in establishing collaborative links with their Syrian counterparts. Signifying a commitment to a hands-on approach, Dr. Al Gurg announced her intention to conduct a field visit to Syria soon to gain a direct understanding of the current reality for factories and industrial businesses.
Both parties have agreed to formulate a joint action plan for the upcoming period. This plan will outline specific programs and activities designed to enhance economic partnership and create new networking opportunities for businesswomen in both Syria and the United Arab Emirates.
