Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has expanded its exposure to global innovation through investments in Cambridge Innovation Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises, gaining access to startups developing technologies in healthcare, applied sciences and quantum computing.
According to the announcement, the investments are intended to support knowledge and technology transfer to Oman, create opportunities for future partnerships and contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy.
Cambridge Innovation Capital’s portfolio includes CMR Surgical, which develops robotic surgical systems; Pragmatic Semiconductor, focused on low-cost semiconductors for Internet of Things applications; Riverlane, which develops quantum error-correction software; and Immutrin, which is working on immune-based treatments for heart disease and other conditions.
Through Oxford Science Enterprises, OIA has access to companies emerging from Oxford University research. These include Quantum Motion, which develops scalable quantum processors and related technologies; Refeyn, which builds tools for analysing biomolecules; Osler Diagnostics, which develops portable diagnostic devices; and Oxford Quantum Circuits, a quantum computing company.
The head of OIA’s private investments division said advanced technologies are becoming a major driver of economic, scientific and social growth. The investments, he added, are designed to help Oman access global innovation, exchange expertise and pursue sustainable long-term returns from fast-growing sectors.
