Palestine’s Ministry of Labour has launched the Makkin Coalition, bringing together around 30 national and international institutions working to advance women’s economic empowerment, employment and entrepreneurship.
The coalition was unveiled alongside a memorandum of understanding between Labour Minister Inas Al-Attari and Hassan Qassem, chairman of Partners for Sustainable Development (PSD). The agreement aims to expand access to employment for priority groups, particularly women and people with disabilities, while strengthening cooperation between government and civil society organisations.
The partnership will support career guidance in targeted governorates, private-sector connections, startup licensing, use of the Job Match platform and awareness of Palestinian labour law. It will also promote success stories from women participating in joint programmes.
Under the agreement, the partners will implement the Ishraq project within the World Bank-funded Social Recovery and Job Creation initiative. The project will train 100 young women across five governorates and provide grants to launch 75 small businesses, with a focus on women and women with disabilities in vulnerable areas of the West Bank.
Makkin is implemented by PSD with funding from FRIEDA. According to the announcement, the programme has trained more than 600 young women over six years and supported the launch of more than 150 women-led ventures.
