Makani Innovation Hub, operated by the Ramallah Municipality, has concluded its “City Challenge: Smart City” program with a final project showcase featuring seven solutions designed to address municipal challenges.
The winning projects were Ather, which took first place, Ramallah Connected Emergencies and Spot Way. The participating teams presented their proposals to a judging panel that included representatives from the Palestinian Association of Local Authorities, Ramallah Municipality and the Palestine Monetary Authority.
The other projects presented during the showcase were A Tareeqak, EcoPath, Wathika and Go Park.
According to the announcement, the program began with a smart city dialogue focused on the city’s challenges and opportunities. It then moved into a three-day innovation lab, followed by mentoring sessions covering challenge analysis, solution design and the development of prototypes.
The challenges were identified by Ramallah Municipality employees based on their understanding of daily operations and residents’ needs. This year’s program placed additional emphasis on developing prototypes that could be tested and further improved.
Ramallah Mayor Jack Saadeh said the municipality and residents would be the ultimate beneficiaries if the program’s outputs help improve services, simplify procedures and strengthen the city’s response to community needs.
