Saudi biotechnology company PHYLA is leading what it describes as the Middle East’s first comprehensive study of alternative protein for poultry feed, in partnership with ARASCO and Tanmiah Food Company and in collaboration with King Saud University.
Conducted in the university’s laboratories, the study is evaluating protein from black soldier fly larvae as a safe and sustainable feed ingredient. The initiative aims to support local feed production, reduce reliance on imports and strengthen food security in Saudi Arabia, according to the company.
The partners have also reviewed the project’s progress, regulatory requirements and next steps for developing and commercializing the local alternative protein sector.
PHYLA said it is developing biotechnology solutions to produce alternative protein and other products from organic waste. The company’s work is focused on supporting more resilient supply chains and local production of sustainable animal feed and plant nutrition.
