Abu Dhabi Launches 18 Smart Ambulances Across Three Categories

Abu Dhabi has launched 18 smart and specialised ambulances, integrating the new fleet with the Unified Medical Operations Centre to support faster emergency response and earlier access to tailored care.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority said the fleet includes six ambulances in each of three categories: intensive care units for critically ill patients, vehicles for maternal and neonatal cases, and ambulances designed for patients with severe obesity.

The intensive care units feature equipment including ultrasound devices, intravenous medication pumps and ventilators. Maternal and neonatal ambulances include integrated incubators and ventilators, while the obesity-focused vehicles have loading platforms and specialised stretchers capable of carrying up to 350 kilogrammes.

The ambulances are connected to command centres and healthcare facilities, allowing medical data and vital signs to be shared during transport. According to the announcement, this connectivity can help hospitals prepare teams and equipment before a patient arrives.

Artificial intelligence is being used to support decision-making and speed access to critical information, while medical assessment and intervention remain under the supervision of qualified professionals. The initiative is part of Abu Dhabi’s wider effort to build a more integrated, technology-enabled emergency response system.
