Qatar Airways has become the first airline to operate Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with Starlink, expanding the satellite connectivity service across its widebody fleet.
The airline said Starlink is now installed on 150 of its widebody aircraft. It has completed the rollout across its Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet in seven months and expects to finish installing the service across its entire Boeing 787 fleet by the end of 2026.
Qatar Airways previously completed Starlink installations across its Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and its Airbus A350 fleet in eight months. The airline now operates Starlink-equipped Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
Since launching the service in October 2024, more than 23 million passengers have used Starlink across over 86,000 flights, according to the airline. The Wi-Fi is free on equipped aircraft and available from gate to gate, with speeds of up to 500 Mbps for work, messaging and entertainment.
Qatar Airways said its installation program is more than 83% complete, with up to 323 Starlink-enabled flights operating daily. The service is available on a growing number of long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes across its global network.
