The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has approved regulations governing its Digital Financial Identity (DFI) Platform, paving the way for customers to access more banking services through digital channels without visiting branches.
The platform will allow customers to open bank accounts, access banking products and services, accept terms electronically, use digital authentication instead of handwritten signatures, and update their information online.
The regulations define the roles of participating parties and set technical, operational, data protection and cybersecurity requirements for the platform. According to the CBE, the framework is intended to support secure and efficient services while aligning with international best practices.
The move forms part of Egypt’s broader push toward digital financial services and financial inclusion. For banks, it provides a regulated foundation for expanding digital services, while customers could benefit from faster and more convenient access to banking products.
The approval lays the groundwork for the platform’s rollout and the next phase of Egypt’s digital banking infrastructure.
