Abu Dhabi-based Technology Innovation Institute (TII) has joined AMD, Intel and OPAQUE as a founding collaborator of TRACE, an open standard designed to produce verifiable evidence of what an AI system ran and which policies it followed.
The specification, also supported by Microsoft, has been contributed to the Linux Foundation for vendor-neutral governance. Its technical workstream is hosted by the Coalition for Secure AI.
TRACE uses hardware-attested records to show what ran, under which rules and how an AI agent used the data and tools available to it. The approach is intended to help organisations independently verify AI activity rather than relying solely on the operator’s assurances, particularly as deployments shift toward autonomous agents handling sensitive information.
TII is contributing expertise in confidential computing, post-quantum cryptography, identity and authentication. It will also serve as a reference deployment environment, testing TRACE against sovereign AI requirements and feeding the findings into the specification.
TRACE is available as an open specification with reference implementations. Its authors are inviting technical feedback from developers, cloud providers, chipmakers and standards organisations.
