OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT beyond text and image generation with tools that let users create personalized stickers and interact with messages on Mac devices.
The new sticker feature can turn personal photos into packs in styles including 3D, hand-drawn and holographic designs. Users can generate the packs through ChatGPT’s Images and Stickers options, then export them to iMessage and WhatsApp or save them to their photo library. ChatGPT can also remove image backgrounds.
A broader integration brings ChatGPT into the Messages app on Mac through Codex and ChatGPT Work environments. The assistant can search iMessage, SMS and RCS conversations, summarize them and send messages on a user’s behalf.
The messaging tools signal a shift from AI that only answers questions to systems that understand context and carry out tasks across applications. According to information published about the feature, ChatGPT does not automatically build a complete index of a user’s messages. Users must specifically request access, while sending messages requires approval and is subject to limits on authorized contacts.
The move reflects OpenAI’s broader effort to make ChatGPT more embedded in users’ digital environments. As AI competition increasingly focuses on agents and integrations, the company is positioning ChatGPT as a tool for completing tasks, not just generating responses.
