The UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has granted Starlink Satellite Communications a 10-year General Space Services License to establish and operate a public satellite communications network in the country.
The license authorises Starlink to provide broadband satellite internet services to consumers, businesses and government entities. It also covers connectivity for the maritime and aviation sectors, subject to the UAE’s regulatory and technical requirements.
According to the announcement, the license will add a space-based layer to the UAE’s digital infrastructure alongside fibre-optic and 5G networks. It is expected to expand connectivity options and support network resilience across sectors including energy, logistics, transport and emergency response.
TDRA Director-General Majed Sultan Al Mesmar said the move supports the UAE’s adoption of advanced technologies and its efforts to strengthen telecommunications and digital infrastructure. He added that the authority would focus on security, reliability, service quality, consumer protection and data privacy.
Starlink’s services will also be subject to spectrum-use rules, technical coordination with relevant authorities and requirements for protecting information infrastructure.
