Oman’s Research and Innovation Authority (RIA) is launching the Midad Digital Centre at Innovation Park Muscat to build advanced digital skills and support technology innovation.
The centre will focus on knowledge transfer, capacity building and emerging technologies including 5G networks, advanced communications, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.
Managed by the Ibn Firnas Academy for Unmanned Aircraft, it will provide a platform for young talent and institutions to develop ideas, test new technologies and gain practical experience. Its programmes will include the Digital Lab.
The initiative is backed by a partnership involving government and private-sector organisations. RIA will oversee the centre and align its programmes with national priorities, while the Ministry of Finance supported its establishment through the Partnership for Development Programme.
Ericsson has equipped the centre with communications platforms and will provide technical expertise. Omantel is supporting its technology environment and connecting its programmes with Oman’s telecommunications ecosystem.
According to the announcement, the centre is intended to strengthen collaboration between government, academia and industry while supporting Oman’s digital economy and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
