Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) is preparing a dedicated strategy for data centers as the government works to establish an integrated regulatory framework for the sector, ITIDA CEO Ahmed El-Zaher said at Techne Summit Cairo 2026.
The framework will cover licensing and regulatory requirements, in coordination with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority and authorities responsible for housing, electricity, communications and information technology. The aim is to create a clearer environment for investors and attract further investment in data centers, according to the announcement.
El-Zaher said Egypt’s strategic position, international connectivity infrastructure and technology talent could support growth in data centers and advanced technologies. He added that investors assess the country’s broader capabilities, not infrastructure alone.
The ITIDA chief also outlined the agency’s wider work to support startups and technology companies. During the first half of 2026, ITIDA trained more than 33,600 young people, supported over 3,000 entrepreneurs and backed more than 1,200 startups through the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center and Egypt’s Digital Innovation Hubs.
The agency is also helping Egyptian startups prepare for expansion and connect with international markets. It supported 10 startups at SusHi Tech Tokyo and plans to support 24 more at Web Summit Lisbon in November.
