Holcim Algeria is hosting a technical awareness day at its plant in Oggaz, Mascara province, as part of Geocycle Week, a global initiative focused on the circular economy and waste valorization.
The initiative targets young people from local vocational training centers. It will introduce them to opportunities in waste management and the circular economy, while exploring the potential to launch small businesses and startups in the sector.
Geocycle supports the use of industrial waste in cement plants, helping reduce reliance on non-renewable resources and improve energy efficiency. At Holcim Algeria, waste-derived alternative fuels are used to replace fossil energy sources, including natural gas.
The event is also intended to move beyond awareness-building by encouraging a local entrepreneurship ecosystem around waste collection, sorting, processing and valorization. Participants will learn more about the sector’s challenges, identify potential projects and understand the requirements for developing them.
Bank representatives will present financing mechanisms for circular economy projects, while institutional and environmental stakeholders will explain the regulatory framework and available support. According to the announcement, Holcim Algeria aims to help develop local skills, create opportunities for young people and support more sustainable industry.
