NBB Expands Enterprise AI Transformation Across Bahrain Banking Group

2 Min Read

The National Bank of Bahrain Group (NBB Group) is expanding its enterprise AI programme, AI@NBB, as it moves from foundational work to broader implementation across customer service, productivity, risk management and operational resilience.

The group, which includes the National Bank of Bahrain and Bahrain Islamic Bank, said it has established an AI roadmap, technical infrastructure, secure enterprise tools, initial use cases and an operating model for organisation-wide adoption.

Current applications include an AI-powered customer service assistant, cybersecurity response tools, internal audit and legal capabilities, policy and documentation management, and selected HR processes.

NBB Group has also created an AI strategy and prioritisation framework to assess opportunities based on business value, feasibility and control requirements. Its operating model combines central oversight with business ownership, supported by AI Champions and cross-functional AI Squads.

The group is expanding its collaboration with Bahrain-based ARRAY Innovation, following a relationship first announced in November 2024. ARRAY is providing engineering expertise and knowledge transfer, while NBB retains ownership of its AI strategy and business outcomes.

Usman Ahmed, Group Chief Executive Officer of NBB, said the group is taking a deliberate approach, directing investment toward defined outcomes in customer experience, efficiency and risk management.
