UK-founded green infrastructure developer Yamna has signed an agreement with Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology to develop a large-scale AI and hyperscale data centre in Salalah.
The first phase, known as Salalah Al Khadra Digital, is expected to exceed £1 billion, or about $1.3B, according to the UK government. The project is also expected to create more than 100 skilled jobs in the UK by exporting British expertise.
The strategic cooperation agreement is intended to accelerate the development of AI and digital infrastructure in Oman. Yamna, which is backed by British investment funds, develops projects spanning green molecules and green digital infrastructure, including power-secured data centre campuses.
The signing took place during Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to the UK. However, the announcement did not disclose the centre’s capacity, tenants or construction timeline.
The project supports Oman’s efforts to position itself as a regional AI and cloud hub, while deepening cooperation under the UK-Oman Sovereign Investment Partnership. Oman has invested £1.7B in the UK through the partnership, according to the UK government.
