Mubbadrah Investment is leading a consortium planning a $3 billion AI data centre in Oman with capacity of up to 400MW for hyperscale operators.

The project will be developed with Sustopia Capital, US data centre developer Vela Tech and Dubai-based renewable energy company O2 Global Energy. The campus is expected to support large-scale AI training and inference workloads, with power supplied through Oman’s national grid and renewable sources.

O2 plans to develop 400MW of solar generation with battery storage to provide additional clean energy for the site, according to the announcement.

US AI infrastructure company Crusoe has expressed interest in taking capacity at the facility. The consortium expects to sign a confirmation of that interest in the coming weeks, meaning no formal commitment has been announced yet.

The project was announced in London during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s State Visit to the UK. The consortium said its partners are involved in developing, designing and constructing around 20GW of AI data centre capacity worldwide. No construction timeline was provided.

Mubbadrah, founded in Muscat in 2005, operates across sectors including energy, mining, manufacturing, IT, real estate and healthcare.
