Aramco Ventures Invests in Finnish ROTOBOOST to Scale Low-Carbon Hydrogen Technology

1 Min Read

Finnish energy transition company ROTOBOOST has received a strategic investment from Aramco Ventures, the venture capital arm of Saudi Aramco, to advance its low-carbon hydrogen and advanced carbon materials technology.

The investment will support the scale-up of ROTOBOOST’s methane-splitting process, which uses a molten catalyst to convert methane and other hydrocarbons into hydrogen and solid carbon materials. These include crumpled graphene sheets with potential applications in batteries, polymers, tires and coatings.

According to the company, the process produces significantly lower emissions than conventional steam methane reforming and uses less energy than water electrolysis. By creating commercially valuable carbon products alongside hydrogen, ROTOBOOST aims to improve the economics of low-carbon hydrogen production.

The investment is expected to help ROTOBOOST manufacture commercial-scale systems, expand carbon materials production and develop applications across multiple industries. The company also plans to expand its presence across the Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America.
