Mazad, Bahrain’s digital auction and marketplace platform, has integrated the national digital identity solution, eKey 2.0, into its operations. The move makes Mazad, a Mumtalakat portfolio company, the first online auction platform in the Kingdom to adopt the secure authentication system, aiming to simplify user onboarding and enhance platform security.
Quick Facts
- First Bahraini auction platform to integrate eKey 2.0.
- Users can log in via national digital identity.
- Partnership with Beyon Connect and Bahrain’s iGA.
Streamlining User Access with Digital ID
The integration allows Mazad users to register and log in using their national digital identity credentials, replacing separate platform-specific usernames and passwords with biometric and facial recognition. This change simplifies the account creation process, allowing new and existing users to complete identity verification in a single step. The collaboration is facilitated through Beyon Connect, part of the Beyon Group, in partnership with Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA).
Nezar Habib, Chief Executive Officer of Mazad, commented on the integration, stating, “At Mazad, we are continuously looking for ways to improve the experience we provide to users while maintaining the highest standards of trust and security. Integrating our platform with eKey 2.0 marks an important milestone by providing users with a fast, seamless, and highly secure login experience through the Kingdom’s national digital identity infrastructure.”
A Push for National Digital Transformation
This initiative aligns with Bahrain’s broader efforts to expand the use of its national digital identity system across various sectors. By incorporating eKey 2.0, Mazad supports a unified and secure method for identity verification that removes the need for traditional passwords, bolstering trust for both buyers and sellers on the platform.
“Mazad’s integration with the eKey 2.0 ecosystem marks a continuation of the Authority’s efforts to expand the adoption of Bahrain’s national digital identity authentication system,” said Dr. Khaled Al Motawa, Deputy Chief Executive of Operations and Governance at the iGA. He added that the Authority remains committed to supporting digital solutions that advance the Kingdom’s digital transformation.
Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Beyon Digital Growth, noted the significance of the partnership. “This partnership extends the reach of Bahrain’s national digital identity solution into the e-commerce and marketplace sector, demonstrating the confidence businesses place in eKey as a foundation for secure and frictionless customer engagement. Together, we are advancing a trusted digital future that benefits consumers and businesses alike, in line with the Kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030.”
