Canadian alternative asset manager Brookfield has opened an office in Doha focused on its global credit platform, including Oaktree, to expand its presence in Qatar and the wider Gulf.
The office follows Brookfield’s planned $20 billion joint venture with Qai, the Qatar Investment Authority’s AI subsidiary. The venture will develop AI infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets, including an integrated compute centre in Qatar.
Brookfield said it manages about $20 billion across the GCC through investments in private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure. Globally, the firm manages more than $1 trillion in assets. It will invest in the Qai venture through its Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Fund, which targets up to $100 billion in global AI infrastructure investment.
The company said the Doha office will work with local partners to identify investment opportunities. The announcement did not provide a headcount or timeline for the joint venture.
