A Coordinated Push for Venture Capital
Dr. Rostom revealed that a revitalized Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship is driving “coordinated and integrated” efforts between various government bodies. Specifically, the Ministry of Planning, through the National Investment Bank and its investment arm NI Capital, is developing innovative financing programs designed to inject more risk capital into the market and support the growth of local startups.
This move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to localize industry and advanced technology. “The state’s focus is currently on localizing industry and advanced technology, and developing a clear strategy to expand large data centers and encourage innovation, which will only be achieved by nurturing promising Egyptian minds,” stated Dr. Rostom.
Building on “Rowad Al-Nile’s” Success
The new initiatives aim to build on the foundation of existing successful programs like “Rowad Al-Nile” (Nile Pioneers). The Minister highlighted the program’s tangible achievements as a model for public-private collaboration, involving the Central Bank of Egypt, Nile University, the Ministry of Planning, and the banking sector.
According to Dr. Rostom, the success of “Rowad Al-Nile” paves the way for future collaboration with the “Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship,” which is part of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development. The goal is to expand the reach of business incubators and institutionalize an entrepreneurial mindset among students.
Dr. Essam Roshdy, Acting President of Nile University, affirmed the university’s commitment to supporting this national direction. “The state’s clear direction towards building a knowledge-based economy places a great national responsibility on the university,” he said, confirming the university’s readiness to contribute its research to support the government’s development policies in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
