The Swiss Embassy in Baghdad said it will continue supporting educational and social initiatives aimed at strengthening young people’s skills and improving their access to entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in Iraq.
Swiss Ambassador Daniel Houn highlighted a project being implemented with Wasel Tasil, a humanitarian organisation, and authorities in Anbar province. The initiative supports students, including children returning to the area after experiencing violence, and aims to promote social integration and cohesion in Anbar and Fallujah.
According to the ambassador, education can help build tolerance and respect among people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds. He said the project could serve as a model for similar initiatives across Iraq.
Houn also pointed to opportunities for cooperation in youth entrepreneurship and skills development. Switzerland could contribute expertise, knowledge and best practices when needed, he said, while Iraqi communities abroad, including in Switzerland, could help transfer experience to young people entering the workforce.
The Swiss Embassy, which reopened two years ago after more than 30 years away, is continuing efforts to expand its presence and activities in Iraq. Houn described young people as the country’s future and said investing in their development was essential.
