Egypt’s National Council for Persons with Disabilities held a two-day workshop on green entrepreneurship in Fayoum, training 25 participants with hearing, visual and physical disabilities.
The workshop, organised in partnership with the Environmental Affairs Agency on August 25 and 26, was delivered as part of the “Your Start from the Environment” project. It focused on recycling environmental waste and turning it into reusable products with added value.
Participants also explored the environmental risks linked to waste, climate change and responses to it, environmental ethics, sustainable development and sustainable thinking. The programme included examples of green business ideas and practical guidance on turning them into viable products and projects.
The training was also made available in sign language to support participants with hearing disabilities.
Iman Karim, the council’s general supervisor, said the programme forms part of its economic empowerment plan and supports Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy 2030. She added that the project aims to create employment opportunities for young people with disabilities by developing and marketing green products, supporting greater independence and social inclusion.
