Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority has formed a working group to promote gender equality and equal opportunity across non-bank financial activities.
The group was established by a decision from FRA Chairman Islam Ezzam and will be chaired by Tarek Seif, executive director of the Financial Services Institute. Its members include FRA and institute officials, a representative of the National Council for Women and two independent members.
According to the announcement, the group will develop the authority’s strategy on gender equality, track women’s representation on the boards and in the executive leadership of regulated companies, and prepare studies on financing provided to women through non-bank financial activities.
Its work will also cover initiatives to expand women’s access to financial products and funding, support entrepreneurship, improve financial literacy and address workplace discrimination. The group will review international practices and propose changes to policies, regulations and supervisory instructions where needed.
The authority said it aims to build a data-driven system for monitoring progress, including through key performance indicators covering gender equality, equal opportunity and women’s financial inclusion. An annual report on achievements and performance indicators will be submitted to the FRA chairman.
