The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and with support from Global Affairs Canada, has supported the establishment of 24 agricultural startups across Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh and Aswan.
The initiative, part of a project focused on climate-smart agriculture and agricultural biodiversity, helped establish eight companies in Beheira, six in Kafr El-Sheikh and 10 in Aswan. According to the announcement, the startups are intended to develop solutions that improve resource efficiency, raise agricultural productivity and strengthen the sector’s ability to adapt to climate change.
Hussein Raafat, the project’s director, said the initiative is designed to turn entrepreneurial ideas into sustainable businesses while continuing to provide technical support and capacity building for founders.
Wafaa Abdel Rashid, an FAO agricultural entrepreneurship specialist, said formal registration can improve startups’ access to financing, technical services and partnerships. The companies were registered in cooperation with Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones through investor service centers in the participating governorates.
