Kevin O’Leary, the Canadian billionaire investor and star of the hit show Shark Tank, has singled out Dubai as his number one choice for launching a new venture. In a wide-ranging discussion with Dubai-based entrepreneur Pratham Mittal, founder of Tetr College of Business, O’Leary praised the emirate’s supportive business environment, rapid government responsiveness, and strategic position as a global hub.

A Model of Good Leadership
During the 103-minute conversation, Mittal shared a recent experience with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. He recounted how Sheikh Hamdan directly asked a group of entrepreneurs what policy changes could help them double the size of their businesses.
According to Mittal, several of the proposed recommendations were implemented within just a few days.
O’Leary described this proactive approach as a model of “good leadership,” highlighting that the speed at which decision-makers engage with and respond to the needs of the business community is a key factor that sets Dubai apart from other global economic centers.
Execution Over AI Hype
Shifting his focus to startup fundamentals, O’Leary stressed that long-term success hinges on execution and genuine customer demand, not on media buzz or fleeting trends. He noted that while roughly 80% of startups fail, the ones that succeed are built on solid commercial foundations and an ability to adapt.
He also cautioned founders against an over-reliance on artificial intelligence, referring to the current climate as the “chaos of AI.”
O’Leary argued that no matter how powerful technology becomes, it cannot replace sound management decisions and the discipline required to build and run a company effectively.
