Jeff Bezos Reportedly Seeks 30% Stake in Liverpool at $1.8B Valuation

Jeff Bezos is reportedly considering his first sports investment by joining a group seeking at least a 30% stake in English football club Liverpool at a £1.35B valuation, or roughly $1.8B, according to The Guardian.

Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is also part of the reported investor group. If completed, the deal would mark Bezos’ first investment in a sports team. He has previously been linked to interest in buying a stake in a U.S. football team.

Liverpool is among Europe’s most prominent sports clubs. Forbes estimates its value at about $6B, while the club’s global profile has made it an attractive target for investors. The Guardian’s report comes as American ownership expands across English football, with 13 of the Premier League’s 20 clubs reportedly having American shareholders, according to Sky Sports.

The trend has been driven partly by the rising popularity of football in the U.S. and the high cost or limited availability of major American sports franchises. For Bezos, the potential investment would also add a major sports asset to a portfolio that already includes technology and media interests. Amazon has previously streamed European football leagues, while Bezos’ AI company Prometheus is reportedly considering a move to London’s King’s Cross.
